“Leaving school at 15, I knew I had to work hard to make a living. 40 years later and the hard work has paid off – it’s been a long road, with it’s ups and downs, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
I came from a traditional family background, the last girl of 7 brothers and sisters. If there’s one thing my father taught us all it’s that if you want to achieve your dreams, you have to work hard to get there.
I left school to work in the local store, moving quickly to work in the offices of Unilever. Working in administration was too strict and monotonous for my free-spirit and after trying to fit in for a few years I shifted gear into the world of Women’s Fashion. I revelled in the constant change of pace and my natural good humour kept customers and staff laughing. But I wasn’t satisfied, I’ve always wanted more than just an ordinary life, so I pursued a Management position in one of the largest organisations in the UK – Thorn EMI.
