Fine Dieting – Part 2

Hello Everybody!

Sorry I’m a little late with Day 4′s menu, life got in the way a little over the weekend, as it often does for us all! I also forgot to mention last time, this menu was developed by my son Matt, who happens to be a trained professional chef of some 10 years experience, so you know you’re in good hands. So without further ado I’ll crack on with today’s menu. Today we’ll do a recipe for 2 portions, but the calorie count will be per portion. This is a great easy meal to share with somebody special, even whilst you’re doing your Clean 9. This dish is best cooked in a slow cooker for 2 hours, or in an oven proof casserole at 160℃ for an hour. Either way you’ll need to preheat your oven to 160℃ for the potatoes.

Chicken Chasseur with Garlic Roasted Potatoes

Ingredients for 2

  1. 2 x Chicken Thigh (skin on) [153 calories (cooked)]
  2. 200g Chestnut Mushrooms (washed & whole) [20 calories]
  3. 2 Onions (sliced) [50 calories (fried)]
  4. 2 tablespoons Tomato Puree [28 calories]
  5. 4 Quartered Fresh Tomatoes [50 calories]
  6. 250g New Potatoes [95 calories]
  7. 200g Fresh Gazpacho [60 calories]
  8. 1 Knorr Chicken Stock Pot (made up with 250ml boiling water) [25 calories]
  9. 2 cloves of Garlic (chopped roughly) [8 calories]
  10. Half tablespoon Olive Oil [60 calories]
524 Calories (+ 60-80 for today’s fruit salad)

Today’s Basket Cost: £6.69 (using plenty of yesterday’s left over ingredients!)

Preparation (15 minutes)

  1. Heat a frying pan over a medium heat and add the Olive Oil100_4465
  2. Place the whole New Potatoes in a sauce pan with some salted water and bring to the boil, cook for 15 minutes or until just under cooked in the middle.
  3. Season the Chicken Thighs with a little Salt & Pepper and sauté in the oil till golden brown, starting skin side down, and turning after around 5-8 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside. (These will drip, so use some kitchen roll or a dish to stop it going all over the work surface!)
  4. Drain your New Potatoes & set aside to cool
  5. Throw in the Onions and 1 clove’s worth of Garlic, turn up the heat a little and cook till soft and golden, add a pinch of salt. (It helps to stop the onions colouring any further)Unknown-1
  6. Throw in your mushrooms and sweat till softened and slightly coloured (that’s right, whole mushrooms!)
  7. Add your Tomato Puree and stir for 1 minute
  8. Add your chicken stock & Gazpacho to the mix, then add in your Chicken. Now place in a slow cooker (2 hours) if using, or in your casserole dish in the oven at 160℃ (1 hour)
  9. When 25 minutes of cooking time remains, skim the fat from the top of the Chicken Chasseur and use to coat the New Potatoes in a roasting dish, add in the last chopped clove of Garlic and place in the oven, cook till brownall over (may require frequent shaking to ensure even colour!)

 

How’s that for a simple meal, it’s only 9 steps and 10 ingredients. You may have noticed Matt’s worked to keep the cost down, the overall cost for 7 days worth of gourmet healthy eating shouldn’t be more than £8 per day!

Fine Dieting!

Hello again!

 

It’s been a while since I posted, and I thought I should begin where I left off. So here’s the first part of my (later than) promised 7 Day Clean 9 Diet Plan. I’ll begin by saying that if you have a fussy eater on your hand then there is a really basic diet that most people can follow happily. It’s a bit repetitive but it will get you through the Clean 9 with a healthy balanced diet, and my son’s partner lost 11lbs on the Clean 9 following this plan. So here goes… Ready?

 

Everyday you have:

I like to use Glorious Foods or New Covent Garden Soups, they’re lovely and fresh and come in a variety of flavours so you can always find something for everyone.  [about 120 calories]

 

Fruit Salad

I’ve found that the individual portions do Fruit Salad supermarketswww.apple.com sell are generally around 60 calories, Melon on it’s own weighs in at just under 50 calories (perfect to balance that fatty lamb burger!)

That’s a total of 493 calories! I always feel pretty well fed afterwards too.

Well with the fussy eaters menu out of the way, let’s get stuck into some fine dining, Clean 9 style! I’ll start by saying I like to make a large fruit salad on the evening of Day 3, it’ll keep pretty well in the fridge till day 7 and is a key component of this diet. If you wanted to you could just buy the ready packaged stuff from the supermarket. But if we’re going Fine Dining, may as well make it from scratch. I include 1 mugful of Fruit Salad as dessert with every meal and you won’t believe the difference it makes to your mood if you do too!

 

Day 1 and 2

This is easy, we don’t eat at all for day one or two, this helps our body to cleanse itself of the toxins that build up in our gut and get ready for a fresh start. This also gives the Aloe the optimum chance of working to rebalance our gut flora (bringing back the good bacteria)

 

Day 3 – Fresh Tuna Nicoise

Ingredients for 1

  1. 1 x 100 – 150g Yellowfin Tuna Steak [221 calories]
  2. 1 Chopped Fresh Tomato [25 calories]
  3. 50g Fresh Green Beans (a small handful) [20 calories]
  4. 125g New Potatoes (¼ bag) [95 calories]
  5. 2 Teaspoons Salad Dressing [50 calories]
  6. This packet of Fresh Rocket [4 calories]
  7. 100g Fresh Gazpacho (⅙ pot) [60 calories]

Total Basket Cost: £16.56 (but we’ll have 3 portions of potatoes, 5 portions of green beans, 2 portions of Gazpacho, and a load of tomatoes to use for the rest of the week!)

 

Preparation (25 minutes)

  1. Take your lovely new potatoes and cut them in half, I find about 8-10 is a good portion.
  2. Place them in a small pan of COLD water (about 1 Litre is a good size) with a good teaspoon of salt, place on a medium heat and bring to the boil till tender (poke them with a knife, if it goes through they’re done!)
  3. Place another pan the same size over a high heat with 2 teaspoons of salt & the same amount of water.
  4. Place a Frying pan on a high heat and leave well alone!
  5. If necessary top and tail your green beans, and chop your tomato into rough eighths
  6. When your potatoes are cooked and ready drain them, and place to one side in a colander covered with a tea towel… Now the fun begins!
  7. Your frying pan should be smoking, and the pan of water boiling by now so drop in your green beans
  8. Season your Tuna with salt and pepper and add a little oil (vegetable is good) to your frying pan. Quickly add the Tuna Loin (Larger Flat side down) into the pan, and leave alone till a good ½ inch of cooked flesh is obvious on the bottom side. (about 2 minutes)Tuna-Cooking
  9. Flip over your Tuna Steaks and give the same time on the other side, and drain your green beans.
  10. Dress your Rocket by tossing it with the salad dressing
  11. Add your green beans, tomatoes and potatoes to the salad and arrange in the centre of the plate
  12. Take your Tuna out of the pan and slice into chunks (it should be a lovely pink in the middle and just hot to the touch in the centre), arrange on top of the Salad
  13. Spoon the Gazpacho over the top, or around the plate, or wherever you fancy really! It’s tasty and the bright vibrant red makes a nice contrast against the green salad.

I promise you, this will take 25 minutes if you work at it, and since you’re on the Clean 9 all that work in the kitchen counts as exercise!

Get Your Detox On!

Top Tips to Detox Successfully!

There’s nothing more satisfying than knowing you’re achieving optimum health every day, and nothing is more challenging than achieving that goal. With marketing and supermarkets putting temptation in our reach all the time, how are we supposed to make sure we stay on the right path for our bodies? Well I’m here to help with this weeks top 10 tips to detox to a better you!

1. Drink More Water!

This one’s fairly simple, drink lots of water everyday to help flush all those toxins out of your system. Take out all those cups of tea & coffee, or replace all those fizzy drinks with a glass of water. It’s what your body’s really craving anyway! So give your body what it deserves, clean fresh water.

2. Take It Slow

In the weeks leading up to your detox, slowly reduce your caffeine and sugar intake. So you know those 12 cups of tea I drink every day? I work my way down to 10, then 8 and so on till I’m at 0. That way I’m setting myself up for success in advance, and making my Clean 9 detox easier to stick to.

 

3. Get Extra Aloe

In the weeks before the Clean 9 start to introduce Forever Aloe Vera Gel into your system. Start by taking 15ml every morning & evening, and gradually increase to 30ml then 60ml each time over the course of 2 weeks. That way you’ve already begun to cleanse your gut of all the unhealthy decaying matter trapped there. So when it comes time to start your Clean 9 you’ll see massive results much faster than you would have otherwise. Plus you’ll feel amazing to begin with, as Aloe helps to increase your energy levels.

 

Plan4. Plan Ahead

When it comes to day 3 of Clean 9, you’re going to get your first 600 calorie meal. It helps to plan ahead and make sure you know what you’ll be eating is a healthy, fresh and balanced meal. In my blog post next week I’ll be talking about healthy recipes and meal plans that are easy to follow. So come back next week if you’re not sure how to plan out a week’s worth of Clean 9 meals.

5. Get a Small Plate

Everybody knows this one, buy a little plate, and eat only food that fits inside the middle of the plate. So that Steak that hangs off the ends doesn’t count, sorry guys if it’s too big to fit, it’s not in the plan!

6. Use Your Fists!

When it comes time to finish your detox, you still need to make healthy choices! What’s the point in cleaning out your engine only to fill it back up with cheap oil and polluted water? So learn to use your fists as a guide to portion sizes. It’s goes a little something like this:

  • 1 fist of Meat/Fish
  • 1 fist of Carbohydrates – like potatoes or rice
  • 2 fists of Vegetables

7. Halve the Bill, Split your Meal

If you go out to eat and the portion sizes are insane, what on earth can you do? It’s simple really… share! If you split the meal in half it’ll probably turn out to be one REAL portion’s worth, and what’s more it’ll definitely halve your share of the bill. It’s a Win Win!

8. Think Positive

There’s nothing worse than when that little devil gets on your shoulder. It’s hard to shift that nagging doubt that you just can’t do it! IF you find yourself struggling with self-doubt, just lie down for 5 minutes and concentrate on your breathing. As you breath out imagine yourself letting go of your self-doubt, breathing out all that negative energy.

9. Make Exercise Easy

The Clean 9 requires 20 minutes of exercise every day. You need to get your heart pumping a little faster for this to be effective, but that doesn’t mean you need to go for a 2 mile run, or cycle to the moon and back. Try just increasing the pace of your morning routine, or cleaning the house a little faster every evening. Running around after kids all day? Try actually running around after the kids. In the office increase your stride and walk faster, it’ll help tone your legs and increase your heart rate all day. You’ll be burning fat with almost no effort!

10. Enjoy Your Food

Just because you’re on a detox doesn’t mean you have to eat raw carrots and homous every day. Plan out meal’s that you enjoy, and make them from scratch. Homemade burgers with pitta bread & salad, with a small bowl of soup to start and a portion of fresh fruit for dessert, sound good? You can make that a 600 calorie meal if you try!

Amazing Second Launch

Just returned home from Mickle Trafford, where we had a great second launch tonight. So excited to share with everybody the amazing successes of my new team member. With sales of over £450 and more still coming in Shaza is well on her way to making a success of her new venture. Joining the business at the start of June, planning on a future away from the daily grind as a Pharmacist. Shaza seized upon her maternity leave as an opportunity to make a change, and struck upon Forever Living Products. I’m helping her to build a solid foundation of product and business knowledge, and all our hard work is paying off! So far her sales are £660 in the first two weeks, and look set to continue growing.
